If you check your email on Monday and find that it's full, you're not the only one. Online, people who use Microsoft Outlook have been complaining about a problem that seems to be with their junk blocker. Because of this problem, users have been getting a lot of spam that would normally be sent somewhere else.
For example, the Twitter user @bdsams posted a screenshot of what looked like his mailbox. It was full of clearly useless junk. We're going to talk about email addresses made up of random numbers, fake security warnings, and phishing attempts that are clear attempts to steal information.
It's not clear what's wrong or when it might be fixed, if it can be fixed at all. Mashable reached out to Microsoft to ask for clarification and more information, but we didn't hear back from them right away. We'll update the story whenever the business tells us something new or has something to say about it.
Tom Warren of The Verge said that when he woke up this morning, his Outlook mailbox already had twenty spam messages in it, and that new ones kept coming in all morning. If you go to Twitter, you can see that Warren is not even close to the only person who thinks this way.
Hallie Rubenhold, a British novelist and historian, shared her thoughts on Twitter by writing, "I'm being bombarded. Whoever is doing it, please stop!"
People should always keep their inboxes clean and organized, especially when it comes to their jobs. We can only hope that more information and some kind of solution to what seems to be a problem will come out soon.
